A very elegant restaurant, very classy, and for Europe, excellent service. You pay for all that, because you are definitely not paying for much food. Definitely not the best meal I had in the region over a two week period by any measure. I was drawn to this restaurant by the reviews, the decor and atmosphere, and what would likely be an excellent meal. I'm not looking to pig out on huge portions like our American reputation would say, but still, you should at least expect to be full. I mean, come on. Basically, big plates with very little food, made to look fancy.
It is best to book in advance, especially on weekends. What was an abandoned stables has been transformed into an architectural masterpiece. There is a big round open kitchen to the right as you walk in. The chefs greeted us friendly as we walked in. The beautiful wooden spiral staircase is the main focal point. We were seated at the top of it. Lighting and mirrors has been used to clever effect and the tables and chairs are very comfortable. The waiting staff were extremely polite and efficient, running up and down the stairs and dodging the low beams with massive trays of food in each hand. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. There is a varied menu and it is reasonably priced for what you get. The desserts were absolutely delicious. The only niggle is that there is only one dish on the children's menu. It is more for adults really. They do have tables outside and a really nice bar downstairs too.
Very romantic restaurant full of history! The food is excellent as well. For starters we ordered the traditional Tarte Flambe, very delicious. For the main dish todays special Duo with veal and foie gras and it was fantastic! We also ordered the scorpion fish fillet with bouillabaisse sauce, but we were disappointed with the dish because it had a very strong fishy smell and taste to it.. :( We also ordered the raspberry clair and The Exotic for desserts and it was absolutely delicious, perfect palate cleanser. Well definitely revisit Les Haras :)
